PICTURE OF THE DAY

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world.

Here is the AHT Herkules according to the photographer Andriy Kalov- the only survived sistership of Stevns Power (Has anyone got any other ideas). I attach his short history of the vessel verbatim, because I think it is absolutely great.

In 2005(?) she was bought by Marine Carrier AB on skrapyard in Danmark(?), than fixed a bit and sent to Nigeria. The vessel worked with AGIP till 2008, when she was hijaked by pirates and brought deep into jungles. She damaged both her propellers and S.Side rudder there. AGIP paid ransom, and vessel was released. Than in 2009 Herkules went to Europe under contract with ITC, but was almost arrested in Las Palmas. She arrived at Gabbard Bank with delay, and due to bad technical condition, only after some time, (VERY cheap vessel, i think!) Herkules went Offhire. Her job was given to Cerberus (Harms).

Herkules spent 1 month at Parkade in Rotterdam, than she sailed to Riga for overhaul. Underway she have lost the Stb.S. rudder blade- it just fall off somewhere. After shipyard Herkules is at spot market, st.by somewhere in England (Harwich?)

I have started a community page, I have no idea how this will go but it seems that by enrolling  people with common interests can email each other - without the public exposure of Facebook.

We are VERY keen to receive contributions to Picture of the Day so if you fancy sending a picture - click HERE !!!!
