THE HISTORY OF THE

BOA OFFSHORE AS |
|
The BOA name originates in Canada where Seaspan operate
barges and tugs. Taubatkompaniet is a Norwegian company managing offshore
support vessels. Their co-operation has resulted in the speculative
purchase and subsequent sale of a whole fleet of diverse middle aged supply vessels.
Therefore the Disposals column is not comprehensive,
only including the recent sales.
We felt that they would not be away for long and have returned with a
series of anchor handlers built in China and designed by Vik-Sandvik. Within living memory they set up a joint venture with DOF using the former
Boa Giant and Hercules. The BOA interest in these vessels was sold to DOF
who renamed them Skandi Giant and Skandi Hercules.
There-after the company
became "BOA" and commissioned a number of very large vessels which
have now entered service. In addition during the boom of
2008 the company have ordered four anchor-handlers and
five platform ships which at the current time (October
2009) are all still scheduled for delivery.
By November 2010 it
appeared that the newbuilding list for this company had
been reduced to one platform ship - or even less-
depending one's information source.
I have had a look at what
this company is up to, and have not been able to make
head or tail of it. They don't have the anchor-handlers
on their fleet list, but according to DNV they still own
them. However they have sold the Boa Fortune.
