We find it difficult to believe that we have ignored Island Offshore for at least two years while the company have been developing. They are based in Ulsteinvik and have associations with the family who own the shipyard and developed the UT offshore vessel type before it was sold to Rolls Royce.

During this time they have built ships brought them into service, and amazingly started to sell them and to replace them with further new-buildings. Now, at the beginning of 2008 they are still building ships, and when their programme is complete they say that the fleet will consist of nine platform ships, three anchor-handlers, three subsea support vessels, three well intervention ships and a semi-submersible.

At the time of writing, February 2008, there are still one anchor handler and four platform vessel to come to complete the fleet, and of course in the present market conditions it may not be possible, or indeed wise, to order further vessels. Additionally we can find no record of the additional anchor-handler being ordered.

At the time of the revision to this information in February 2010, nothing much has changed. Probably Island Offshore will not build anything for the foreseeable future. And having just written that I see that Island Offshore have ordered two UT 776 CDs from STX Brevik (Feb 19th 2010)

At the 2013 update it can be seen that a number of new platform ships have been added to the fleet, some of which have become well stimulation vessels
