SBS

Shetland Base Service commenced services in the port of Aberdeen during 2001. They were a logistics company offering a complete transport service - from door to platform using the company's own services. It controlled a small base on the south side of Aberdeen Harbour. It owned a fleet of vehicles, and back in the summer of that year it bought a UT705. This vessel was almost immediately chartered by a Scandinavian operator. With this purchase SBS became the UK's largest supply ship owner! Something to think about. At the oil show they signed a contract for the building of a second vessel. This one was a VS 470 II.

Later the shipping part of the company detached from the base operations, and expansion continued. the ships were painted up in a colour scheme which looked very like that of the defunct OIL, and much of both onshore management and sea staff had previously worked for that company.

Late in 2006 the company was purchased by Viking Supply Ships, but still exists as SBS Marine, managed from its Scottish headquarters in Aberdeenshire.More recently, on the Viking Supply Ships website, it is stated that SBS Marine Ltd has been purchased by AB TransAtlantic. But surely AB TransAtlantic own Viking Supply Ships??

Where we seem to be now is that the holing company have renamed Viking Supply Ships as Viking Supply Ships, and the SBS ships are gradually being renamed as Viking something, and so this site is now history.
