SIEM OFFSHORE

Siem Offshore is an international investment company who owned half of Subsea 7 and 12 ships mainly in Brazil. They also managed three other ships. Up to November 2004 we had not heard of them. But they surfaced as builders of a couple of VS470s. Almost as soon as these words were written it was been reported that Siem, who were formerly DSND, had purchased the other half of Subsea 7 from Halliburton.

At the end of October 2006 Siem announced an increased building programme which includes at that time numerous VS 470 MkIIs and a number of MT6019s. In 2006 Siem had one or two subsidiaries although they were difficult to separate since all branches of the company seemed to claim ownership of the fleet. Most of the names used to start with Ocean something - although this is was not a guarantee of ownership, nor was the lack of the prefix "Ocean" and guarantee of non-ownership.

In 2005 Siem purchased Rovde Shipping, and for a while appeared as Siem Rovde.

During 2007 this company ordered a large number of PSVs and AHTSs. This apparently, in December of 2007, gave the company a fleet of 16 vessels and an order book of 14 vessels. The anchor-handlers were particularly interesting. The order was for a round number of 10 identical very large vessels with 28,000 bhp available, the first of which was due in May 2009. According to their presentation at the recent IBC Supply Ship conference in London they had already secured the engines and the winches for these vessels so that their delivery on time will be guaranteed.

By 2010 Siem was now Siem Offshore with a large fleet and now a slightly smaller order book. Now that a bit of discipline has been developed all the current fleet appear here (May 2010).

In 2012 nine anchor-handlers have been delivered. Updated 12/4/12
