The VS 491 CD
anchor-handler the Siem Emerald at work recently
offshore in the North Sea. Are these ships the shape of
things to come? They are very big. They have massive
wire storage capability and they are provided with much
complex anchor-handling equipment on deck. On the other
hand they are slow (at work) and complicated, and so
large that they may threaten the integrity of offshore
installations in adverse weather.
