This photograph was rescued
from the recycling bin by Kenny Polson in Australia, who
scanned it and sent it to me. Work on deck as it used to
be. There was a tendency for ship-masters to ballast
their craft down so that their control was enhanced - so
they thought, but this often resulted in the decks being
awash most of the time. This looks like a pipelayer
buoy, connected to the ship by the tugger wire. Getting
it aboard is a bit like playing a big fish, so it must
be re-positioned at the roller before they can take the
weight.
