AUGUSTEA

One would be forgiven for thinking that Augustea was just a misspelling of Augusta, but this is not the case, although according the the company history Augustea participated in the development of the port of Augusta in Sicilly.

Augustea was founded in 1955 by Salvatore Cafiero, and over the years the company has developed and now is divided into three groups, deep sea vessels, tugs and barges. We are concerned with those tugs which are capable of carrying out anchor-handling and towing activities, so of the towing fleet only those with open sterns are featured here, and I have chosen somewhat arbitrarily to limit the inclusions to those of 40 metres or more in length.

There had been no changes to the fleet and no newbuildings under way at the 2014 review.
