The Telegraph
Because we are about to
advertise for a new member of staff I was motivated to thumb through the
Telegraph which Numast are good enough to send to us, even though few of us
are members any more. And one has to say - no wonder it wins prizes.
Considering it is a monthly paper it is amazing how much news of interest is
packed into it, and I am sure that not all that many writers are employed.
One of the national newspapers is currently downsizing by sacking 90
reporters. How many were there to start with, and what quality of work did
they produce anyway. When it arrives we pounce on it just as eagerly as we
did when we received our copies on the other side of the world.
As well as the news there
are the pages of fascinating jobs on offer, and it makes one realise that
marine certificates of competency actually have a value. As a young man when
I was a second mate I was earning slightly less than the man who sold me
spare parts for my car at the local Ford dealership. I would have given up
had it not been for my old mum who persuaded me to go on and get Masters.
So full marks to the
Telegraph - and although I mean every word of what is written and it may be
dawning on our readership by now that these words are intended to advertise
the fact that MMASS is looking for a Master Mariner, so if you are one of
