SEPTEMBER 2000 NEWSLETTER

 MAREX WEBSITE HITS RECORD

We offer ourselves a moment of self congratulation. Over 9000 hits were recorded on out site during August; our first month of publication was July 1998 when we had 7 hits. We are beginning to lose sight of the original objective which was to sell mud tank cleaning systems and promote our consultancy services. Of course we still sell tank cleaning machines and carry out consultancy but so far there have been no sales which might be directly attributed to the internet. That being said we have had the opportunity to quote on a number of occasions, but everyone involved with quoting for supplies to newbuildings knows that quoting is a million miles away from getting the order.

 FAR MINARA SOLD

The Seabrokers August newsletter reports, amongst a bewildering mass of offshore information, that the UT708 Far Minara has been sold by Farstad and purchased by the China National Oil Operating Company.

The ship was originally build for Seaforth in 1983 and became part of the Farstad fleet  in 1989. This is a particularly noteworthy event, since she has been employed for several years as a coastguard guard vessel during the winter months. The replacement will be the ME303 Mark II Far Sky. We have always had the impression that despite the importance of the service made available by these guard vessels, the ships actually employed have been at the bargain end of the spectrum due to the limited funds made available by the government.

The Far Sky was a supership when she came out. Have things changed? Is the Far Sky the only Fardsad   ship available and so on offer at a bargain price? Are ME303s less popular than they used to be?

Opinions or even answers! welcome.
