Here is the Ocean Shield, which started life as the Skandi Bergen, but which was purchased by the Australian Navy and is operated by a civilian crew and designated as an ADV, and Australian Defence Vessel. One of its main tasks will be to take part in disaster relief operations, much as I suggested here some time ago. These ships can provide electricity for a small town and drinking water for a few thousand people for a month. Thanks to Mike Prendergast for the photo posted here on 7th June 2013.
