BLUE STAR
LINE
|
I dare say that
there are some retired British seafarers who
find themselves on this page when searching for
the old Blue Star Line, that UK shipping company
owned by the Vesty organisation and operating
large grey freezer ships with very large and
flamboyantly decorated funnels. This is a new
Blue Star Line which opened for business in 2004
in Denmark providing support to the offshore
industry.
It is a relatively small organisation, operating
a few second hand ships in what is a difficult
environment. We can only wish them luck. It is
noted that the Blue Alpha is a former Maersk D
Class, still working. Many Maersk
anchor-handlers of this vintage have made their
way to the breakers, in my view because they
were too complex for companies with limited
resources to operate.
In addition to
the ships featured here the company own a couple
of ex factory trawlers designated as
'multi-purpose offshore support vessels' which
are not featured.
At the time of
the 2015 review the company has gained another
anchor-handlers and two platform ships. They are
all second hand, purchased from Maersk and Gulf
Mark.

September 2015.
