This review knows nothing at all about TFDS apart from the fact that they are Norwegian and have a number of ships whose name begins with Troms. We believe that they were first seen in UK as the purchasers of the Star Orion in about 1987 which was the first ME303 and which TFDS winterised for use in Northern waters.

Since printing the above we have received an email from a lady in Norway who told us that the initials of the company are TFDS not TDSF as we had before. the initials, she tells us, stand for "Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap". So now we know just a little more.  

They sold their ships to SOLSTAD in November 2004. Subsequent to this sale, the management of the company felt so lonely that they bought one of their ships back, and renamed it Troms Falken again.

Now, in 2011 TFDS renamed themselves as Troms Offshore and give the appearance of having expanded into ship management managing their own and client's tonnage.

In early 2013 Troms Offshore was purchased outright by Tidewater, and at that time they owned one anchor-handler and eight platform ships and well as some sort of polar research vessel. For the time being this page will continue but there is the possibility that the management may start off again, with new purchases, so we'll see how it goes.

At the 2014 review it can be seen that one Troms ship has been added to the fleet and one Tidewater ship. And they can also be seen to be managing the shallow drilling ship Bucentaur. We assume from the way the changes have been made that the company is going to continue in its own way, as opposed to being absorbed by the parent company.

Since Tidewater are now assigning ships to this fleet as and when they like it is not possible to identify a proper building programme, but nevertheless there is one ship on order , which must have been on the stocks at the time of the takeover..
