Fairplay Towage was
started in Hamburg in 1905 as a harbour towing
company, and they have kept on doing that up
until the present day. They added a deep sea
capability in 1967.
In 1997 they added an offshore capability to their fleet,
and it is due to this that they are features
here. Broadly we have featured tugs of more than
30 metres length. These vessels are often seen
offshore particularly assisting with the moving
of jack-ups.
By the time of the
2014 update, the company had itself designated
some of its tugs as 'Offshore/Oceangoing tugs'
and so this is the new list here. It is
different form the previous list, and the non
presence of some tugs does not mean they have
been disposed of.
At the 2015 review
Fairplay still has many many tugs, and I have
decided to make the minimum size for the vessels
included here to be 40 metres, actually one on
the list is 39 metres long, but what the hell.
In any case these four tugs in addition to the
Balitc are designated as the "Ocean Going Tugs"
of the fleet. So there they are.
