VROON BV

Vroon BV is a traditional Dutch shipping company owning a diverse fleet of vessels including a large number of cattle carriers, container ships, tankers and last and possibly least, offshore support vessels. At the time of writing, February 2007 the fleet is dominated by old ships converted for a role as standby vessels. However they own a number of platform ships, mostly newbuildings and have a number of orders in the pipeline.

Almost as soon as the previous words were written it was announced that Vroon had purchased Viking Standby making this a very large company. So the majority of the striped ships will now disappear and be replaced by large numbers of orange ones with a V on the side. The ships will now be known as the "VOS" something rather than the Viking something.

According to the Vroon website they have 10 vessels on order for delivery between now and 2008.

Vroon also purchased what was once Britain's largest offshore ship-owners Nomis, and the whole fleet has been renamed.

Vroon currently operation one windmill installation vessel the MPI Resolution and have two under construction (Sept 2010). They also have a number of small maintenance vessels in operation and two under construction. None of these vessels is featured on this page.

At the time of the current revision of this page (June 2012) it can be seen that much of the old Nomis fleet has been scrapped, to everyone's relief I should think, and that Vroon continue to expand in most sectors. It is noticeable that their large number of anchor handlers are small vessels, by today's standards, and so one assumes they are for operation in the more benign seas of the world. 

At the 2013 review there was a reduction of six older vessels from the anchor-handler fleet and no additions, One of the platform ships was sold and there were two additions to the fleet. There remain a large number of platform ships due in 2015.

At the 2014 review it can be seen that the company has many ships on order. It looks as of they have got some sort of a bulk discount from a Chinese yard.
