TELCO

This single ship has lurked here for at least ten years, although Telco has become part of Vroon, with the possibility of someone in between. The Field Express can now be seen in Vroon colours. The photo below and a couple of others were taken I believe from the Transocean Nordic, a jack-up, in the 1990s and published then on this site, since then they have migrated all over the place, and can be seen as an illustration for Lowestoft College, and on various marine websites. They have also won prizes in a number of photo competitions, and will probably continue to do so as people lift them off the internet and claim them for their own.

Several people have sent us details about this fine craft. It is a UT 714 built in the Jiangnan Shipyard in 1983 or 1984 (Opinions differ) originally as the Normand Sky for Solstad. It was formerly owned by the Dutch Company Vroon but is now under the control of a joint venture between that company and Telco.

The UT714 was a variant of the UT704, dimensionally and mechanically slightly smaller. They were built for operation in the more benign areas of the world and featured strongly in India.
